My Old Man is a short film released in 2023 which follows a pair of brothers struggling with the death of their Dad. In an attempt to reconnect and share their grief, Sam decides to take his younger brother Liam fishing at a secret and secluded fishing spot that he used to go to with his Dad. But as Sam tries to teach Liam how to fish, they must both confront their grief and try to mend their relationship.

Working as the director of photography I used this project to explore the simple locations of a house and a lake and attempt to find a new approach in portraying them. I aimed to utilise soft, motivated lighting and intricately framed shots which could be held on screen for long periods of time in order to give the actors the space and time they needed to convey the deep emotions present in the scenes.
